Competitor acquires sanitation company contracted by White Haven borough

White Haven borough has a new garbage hauler – something that came as a surprise at Monday's council meeting. The borough contracted services with Gittens Disposal Service in Mountain Top, Borough Manager Linda Szoke said, but when a new dumpster showed up at Lehigh Park recently with a different company name and number attached, they thought something was peculiar.

State troopers are reopening a cold case from 1996 when a body was found along Interstate 80 near White Haven. It took investigators two hours to exhume the remains of the unidentified man at the center of this case.

A White Haven man already facing charges in one drug delivery case faces two additional criminal cases for allegedly dealing marijuana. Edward M. Hogan III, 21, of 420 Northumberland St., faces charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility in both new cases filed against him by Wright Twp.

Plymouth officials search for owner of crumbling building

Concrete barriers were placed around a deteriorating vacant building on East Main Street in Plymouth after part of its wall collapsed into the adjacent drive-through area of Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo's drive-through at 101 East Main St. has remained closed as a result of the collapse at the building at 111 E. Main St., said bank spokesman Jim Baum.

Crews Search for Cause of Deadly Interstate Crash in Carbon County

Investigators tell Newswatch 16 the fiery wreck happened when two tractor-trailers collided on Interstate 80 east near the Lake Harmony exit on Interstate 80 east around 1:30 this morning. A portion of I-80 east is closed and a detour is in place while crews work to cleanup the wreck.
