Carbon County property transfers

Carbon County Recorder of Deeds Emmett P. McCall reported his office recorded 221 deeds, 173 mortgages and 278 other writs during the month of May. As a result of those transactions, McCall turned over to the Carbon County General Fund the sum of $26,596.77. A breakdown of that revenue includes: transfer fees, $20,625; data processing fees, $1,697.54; notaries, $70; commission on transfers and writs, $3,087.03; and Affordable Housing administrative fee, $1,117.20.

Tunk hit-and-run leads to arrest

Russell Evans, 34, of White Haven, was arrested for suspected driving under the influence after causing a hit-and-run crash at 12:12 p.m. May 31 on Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township, according to information police released Monday to the Pocono Record. Evans was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee north on Route 115, hit a fence on private property and then hit the rear of a northbound utility truck on 115.

Competitor acquires sanitation company contracted by White Haven borough

White Haven borough has a new garbage hauler – something that came as a surprise at Monday's council meeting. The borough contracted services with Gittens Disposal Service in Mountain Top, Borough Manager Linda Szoke said, but when a new dumpster showed up at Lehigh Park recently with a different company name and number attached, they thought something was peculiar.

A White Haven man already facing charges in one drug delivery case faces two additional criminal cases for allegedly dealing marijuana. Edward M. Hogan III, 21, of 420 Northumberland St., faces charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility in both new cases filed against him by Wright Twp.

Plymouth officials search for owner of crumbling building

Concrete barriers were placed around a deteriorating vacant building on East Main Street in Plymouth after part of its wall collapsed into the adjacent drive-through area of Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo's drive-through at 101 East Main St. has remained closed as a result of the collapse at the building at 111 E. Main St., said bank spokesman Jim Baum.
